Final Major Project outcome

For my outcome I produced a mixed media piece hopefully showcasing nature and spiritual energy and how it's linked to the stars and planets. I went through different stages for the production of this piece. First came the blotting of the planets and the painting and then it was onto the patterning which took the longest. Overall I think it's successful in a way but also too simplistic in another as not a lot technique went into it so I'm unsatisfied in a sense. But I think it fits the brief in the way that I've experimented with the idea and developed and refined it before settling on a desired outcome.

                                          Finished final piece.

Portfolio and E-Portfolio

I had to produce my e-portfolio quite early on due to university interviews, I also produced two e-portfolios as some universities required a different amount and different connect. So because of this I wasn't able to put any of my recent work in which was probably some of my best stuff. So it's a shame that I hadn't produced that work earlier so it could of been included in my portfolio. Even though I wasn't able to include some of my most recent work I'm still happy with my e-portfolio and some of the stuff on there like my photography work and prints of skulls. Some of it I wish wasn't like my poster as I don't think the quality of the work is up to the standard. But overall it was good for when I had to have it done for university. But now I'd definitely update it if I got the chance.

For my actual portfolio like my e-portfolio I had to have it produced early on for university interviews, but unlike my e-portfolio I was able to add work as I went along so the quality of it is a lot better. I'm really proud of my portfolio I think it showcases a wide range of skills and techniques. It's filled with a range of work but it also includes stuff I'm really proud of and some not so much like my poster and mono print stuff, but it's good to have in my portfolio as it showcases graphical and print techniques. Similar to my portfolio there is still stuff I want to include in my portfolio like my mono-print planet samples and stuff from my journeys project

My own work for journeys

My main idea for journeys is exploring the process of a cup of tea, as its part of my everyday life and its suitable for all occasions. For this project i've been exploring the print method of blotted line, and using different material to add colour. i experimented with water colours and tissue paper. I like both materials as they give a the viewer a different response, the tissue paper is more graphical looking and the colour is off set so its got an edgy feel, whereas the watercolours are more confined and loose, its a lot lighter than the tissue paper. But both are effective for what i'm trying to achieve.

Journeys

While exploring the theme of journeys i came across these two artist, both work very differently but i think they could influence my development stage and how i go about composing my final illustration.

The first artist is Gregory Euclide. He produces these pieces from used material and found objects during his everyday life. His main focus is on the landscape and creating this juxtaposed space with raised and flat surfaces. I like his work because of the way he lays it out and the use of colour and how much detail he includes. Looking at his work will probably help me explore colour and how it can be applied.

My second artist is James Jeans he's an illustrator based in Los Angeles. He works in three different styles, each just as effective. I really like his Chrome outline comic work. He doesn't limit his influences to just one subject so his work is very varied which i find interesting, so i think for my development i'll try and keep my style loose and fluid.

Kiki Smith
Peony Yip Aka the The white deer is a freelance illustrator living in Hong Kong. She produces superimposed drawings, often combining nature and human elements. What i really like about her work is how much detail she can fit into these illustrations while only using pencil. I also like the boldness of the red drawings that she overlays on her illustrations.

Kiki Smith is a multidisciplinary artist that works with a range of media solo and combined.  She's a german artist that focuses on cultural taboos bring them to life. she works with a range of material from sculpture, print and drawing. What i like about her is how she's able to bring up these social no no's with confidence, and they way she produces them is inspiring its not right in your face but its close enough.

Here is some of the work I am currently working on. The first was a piece inspired by Peony Yip. I was trying to include as much detail as possible. The second was trying out a different painting technique by using layers and base tones.
